Self-reflections on Presentation
Can you say “ Uhm” ?
After viewing my presentation video, I realize I really need to work on
using too many “Uhms”. I also did not have an idea of how much I
wave my hands in the air when I talk!
I was surprised at how nervous I felt when it
finally got to my turn to present. I
felt like I had practiced the night before, but facing the audience, it was
hard to remember every point I wanted to make.
I did think the activity went as I had hoped with each object being introduced. In a presentation to a “real” audience, I
would take the time to check that each participant had written something on their sticky
note.
I thought the Power point presentation was
appropriate for my target audience. I changed the font as suggested in our
reading to make it easier to read. I
tried to use pictures to explain the information and to use words that were not
too hard to understand.
Self-management was an important point I wanted to
make. I tried to impress upon the
audience that every patient should participate in their own care and have an
active voice in decisions that are made by their medical team.
Putting this plan together helped me consider what
needs to be included when gearing information to our patients. I feel like I
learned a lot in preparing the lesson plan and this presentation. I never like seeing myself in videos but this
experience really pointed out significant things I need to work on in similar
presentations.
Thanks, Kay
Kay,
ReplyDeleteYour presentation was well planned and organized. The font size and background you chose were perfect for your target population and intended audience. You did look nervous and fidgety, but you continued with the presentation. The graphics were fitting and not overwhelming to your audience. I think what would help you more than anything would be presenting the information a few more times in front of an audience that is non-threatening and that will provide constructive criticism. Overall, I enjoyed the portion of the presentation that was posted. Good work.
Hi Kay,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your presentation. I felt your information was well organized and easy to understand. It was targeted to your specific population and made good use of graphics. I thought your choice of tools/objects for the interactive portion of the presentation were excellent. They were appropriate for your presentation and I felt that they also encouraged more interaction between participants (us). I like that you use hand gestures. I felt that you were lively and enthusiastic. I may be biased because I tend to talk a lot with my hands as well :-)You also incorporate humor into your presentation and that makes the presentations much more enjoyable. I think you did a good job!
Kay,
ReplyDeleteBeing at the presentation audience, I did not pick up on the nervousness at all. I have to agree with Alex on her point with humor. You use it very well and it keeps the class interested and captured in your presentation. Things like that tie it to real ife and make it easier to comprehend.
Your power point was well done as well with short points on the slides that you could expand upon and explain in detail to the audience. I think that you did well.

Kay, In your reflection you stated that you carefully considered the font of you powerpoint presentation. That was a great application of the lessons we have learned this semester about good communication techniques. This semester I was evaluating an instructor and I noticed the projector was very blurry. I asked her if she had noticed this, and she said "no". Then, I asked her students, and they all commented that is had been that way for several weeks. It can be "little" details like noticing how your effective your powerpoint is that can make a difference in the audience's understanding and retention of the material.
